Digital Music Production 2023

During her first semester as a music major, Chantel began learning to use Logic Pro, marking her introduction to digital music production. What started as a simple piano experiment soon evolved into her first piano arrangement, which was later realised through digital instruments in a digital audio workstation. This process sparked a deeper appreciation for the creative possibilities of music-making.

Shortly thereafter, Chantel produced an original instrumental cover for a charity organisation, with support from her family. In December 2023, she performed both works for an audience of elderly attendees and friends, experiencing the joy of sharing her music in a meaningful way. The project became a defining moment in her early journey, where creativity, purpose, and community converged through sound.

Animation x Music Collab 2024

Chantel collaborated with Japanese exchange student and animator Shino to create Free, an original animated short that combines music and animation. The story follows a bird trapped in a cage, ultimately freed with the help of human friends, a metaphor for Shino’s personal experience of overcoming challenges through friendship and support during her time in Singapore.

As the project’s composer, Chantel introduced Shino to the music department’s computer laboratory, demonstrating digital instruments and sound textures. Drawing from Shino’s artistic vision and sound preferences, Chantel composed an original score that mirrored the animation’s emotional and narrative flow.

Through an iterative process of feedback and refinement, the two artists worked closely to align each musical phrase with the animation’s pacing and mood. The final piece achieved a seamless synthesis of sound and visuals, conveying a shared message of empathy, resilience, and freedom.

Piano Voyage XI: Game Night! Ft. JDN Party Quest! 2025

As part of Piano Voyage XI: Game Night!, Chantel collaborated with JDN Party Quest and students from LASALLE’s School of Contemporary Music to produce and perform curated game soundtracks. The project involved close teamwork between composers and performers, blending structured preparation with creative exploration.

Chantel performed as the lead pianist for Genshin Impact’s main theme, glockenspiel percussionist for Octopath Traveller, and vocalist for Final Fantasy XIII’s “Serah’s Theme.” Her preparation included score study, ensemble coordination, and memorisation to ensure precision and musical cohesion under the direction of a professional conductor.

In addition to performing, Chantel also served as the master of ceremonies, recording the concert’s voiceover and hosting the event. Through this project, she developed valuable skills in leadership, adaptability, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, while deepening her understanding of ensemble performance and musical storytelling.
